The economy has people rethinking the search for their dream homes. Home owners are deciding to make their current homes their dream homes. To be apt, my first house is technically a condo, but a condo is a home nonetheless. While I have most of the essentials left over from my old apartment, I felt that I could use a few knick knacks that would better suit my new place and give it a fresh new look. I also wanted to take advantage of the spacious new kitchen with a bunch of doohickeys that would make cooking and whatnot a lot easier.

I had already got my friend to agree to help me out and since I was on a budget, we decided to head over to Ikea to pick up a few cheap accessories. After searching high and low, we found one of those magic bullet machines for chopping, mincing and mixing stuff along with your standard coffee maker, hot plate and toaster oven. Next, my friend helped me pick out some bathroom furniture to place over the toilet for bath towels and leaving one’s clothes on. I also wanted to get some extra lamps for added lighting, but couldn’t find ones that matched what I already had. So we decided to head over to Macy’s and there we found exactly what I was looking for. Since we were there, I also nabbed some frames to hang up some pictures and posters in order to spruce the place up. When we bought a house after we got married, there were just so many different things that I was itching to fix up about it. But now that we’ve saved a little bit of money, we’re investing it back in our house. The first thing that we’re doing now is fixing up our kitchen.

I’ve been looking at all kinds of interior designs and have pull sheets in a folder of what I’d like. I showed them to SEARS Home Improvement Houston when they came and did a consultation for us.

I”m not just going to get some new appliances and new cabinets refaced though. I’m also going to paint our kitchen a bright robin’s egg blue color that I’m really excited about. Plus, I bought thse little things that you can hang up decorative plates with on the wall. So IÕm going to hang up some in a kind of plate mural that I found at a flea market. I think it’s going to look so modern and put together once I’m through painting and everything’s installed!

When we bought our home I thought that it was ready to move into with a few small changes. That is not what my wife thought. Or at least we have two different ideas on what small changes were. One thing that we did that made a big difference was the changing of the window treatments. There were plastic style blinds that had breaks in them mounted in the windows when we bought the home and we replaced them with a nicer wooden plantation blind. What a difference the new blinds made from the inside and out! It sounds funny to think that window blinds would help with curb appeal but it did! The new blinds also help to insulate the windows. When we close them it lets very little sun in even on a hot summer day. My son and his friend decided that it would be fun to practice baseball in thier friends front yard. the problem is their friend has a zero lot line home! I could not believe that there were two broken but there were. Apparently they were a double window and when one broke it caused a crack in a weak spot on the other. What ever the case that was the most expensive baseball practice we have had yet! When I asked my son why there were two windows broken his response was we are not stupid when we broke the first one we went out back of their home and practiced there! Keep in mind they have no yard. We are lucky that they did not break every window in the house!

We enjoyed having our ceiling fans in our former home and we were surprised when we looked at several new homes that they did not have any. That can be a good thing because we like to choose the style of fan so it will match our furniture. We also like choosing from the Hunter ceiling fans because they have many styles and they are so quite and dependable. The blades just seem to be stronger and we do not have that warped look on our fans even after they are years old. When we find something we like we stick with it and ceiling fans are no exception.

After remodeling our utility room we were more then impressed with it’s outcome. We had to make many decisions along the way but they all worked together perfectly to make a really nice final product. We changed out the old style counter tops with butcher block style. We then looked at utility sinks and found one that would be large enough to wash the dog in as well as any other use we may need it for. After we finished with our work we went to adirondackchairsinc.com and ordered some comfortable chairs for the deck area and our work was done. that is the last project for this year but I am sure next year has one in the making already so for now we sit in our chairs and enjoy the fact that we have completed a job and it is well done.
