When I even think about how beautiful it would be to live on a river I think about what happened to my sister and her family. They bought a beautiful lake house that was picture perfect. They were concerned about how every home on their street was even with the river. You could not see where the water began and the yard ended when you sat in a chair on their lawn. When they asked the neighbors and the realtor about this potential problem they all told them the same answer which was the river had never flooded since the homes were built. Since they were on some what of a curve it could prove potentially difficult for their homes to escape damage should it flood but they bought it anyway. It was so beautiful. Exactly six months from their purchase date there began the biggest rain storm they had ever seen. Everything flooded. All of the homes we under water from the bottom floors down. There is something so relaxing about taking some time off and just enjoying a getaway at a holiday cottage. Being able to spend some time out in the great outdoors with nothing else on your mind is a great pick me up for anyone. Studies have shown that were are more productive if we take time off and let ourselves have fun then if we continue to work at the same rate everyday. Everyone bogs down but no one has to. A little getaway can be just what the doctor ordered. When I was working on a project that we had actually been working on for a year we were all at a a stand still. No one had stopped with this project trying to get it finished. One day I went into my office and held a meeting. No one knew what to think. I then explained to them that they all had a new assignment that will last one week. They were to take a week off and do nothing but enjoy life. Enjoy the fun things and not to think one time about work. They were all confused because they are as dedicated as I am to our profession. When we returned one week later the room was buzzing with new ideas and we had our project finished in just four days! Everyone was so proud of the work we had done and everyone was relaxed.
For many people there is a decision that they have to make that can be the most difficult decision there is. That decision is when it is time to admit someone you love to a nursing home. When a good friend of ours had to make the decision to admit her grandmother to a nursing home it was a very difficult time. Her grandmother lived alone and had for many years. She felt as if everything was good except sometimes she would forget things. Of course her grandmother felt she should stay in her home and she was fine but that simply was not the case. The stove would be left on and the front door left open. Sometimes she would fall asleep outside after she had been checked on and was in bed. Once she took her to the nursing home and she got to see it and meet the other tenants and nursing staff she felt better about it. She even liked the nursing home furniture. The furniture gave the home a more home feel and it was very neat. Once she was settled in we take turns visiting her and she looks better then she has in a long time. She now has friends to talk to and people that have lived through many of the same things she has. It is a very hard decision for any one to make. For our friends once it was all done it turned out better then we had anticipated it would and that was a real bonus.
We have friends and family over for dinners and grill outs a lot. They have been through our home thousands of times and know it as well as we do. One day my wife and I were talking about getting new Dinnerware. We decided that we would get a really nice set of dinnerware that could add color as well as dress the room up a little more and use it on special occasions such as nice dinners with guests. When everyone came over the next time the table was set and ready for everyone to enjoy.
