Most of us will be faced with having our loved ones getting older. The decisions that we sometimes have to make for the best care of our loved ones can be very difficult. I had a very good friend that struggled with the fact that his parents could no longer live by themselves. Their advanced age and all that comes with it, such as medication, determined for them that they were no longer able to take care of themselves completely. He was not sure what to do because he and his wife both worked. That is when he began checking into Retirement Homes. He was reluctant at first because he had heard so many bad stories about so many of these homes. Knowing how much work his parents would require with their many medications and the schedule of the medications he wanted to be certain that they were capable of handling his parents care. After doing a great deal of research and visiting many retirement homes he was quite surprised at what he found. He not only spoke to the employees he also spoke to many residents that lived in the different homes. He found the home that would work the best for his parents and then he had to convince his parents. This would be a tough sell since they had married at a young age and had lived in their home for most of their married lives. This meant for them that some of their freedoms would not be theirs anymore and he knew that would be most difficult for his father who was a devote war vet. When he approached his dad his dad was very much in agreement partly because his dad was worried about the care of his mother. He said that he felt a huge responsibility for the care of her and he would feel better about having help with her. Of course if she went he wanted to go,too. The funny part of the whole thing was that his mother said the same thing about his dad. It was their love for each other that made them know they needed help. This worked great because that meant they both had an open mind. When they went to see the place they also spoke with other couples there and they knew this was the place they wanted to be. Now he does not have to worry if they are being cared for because he knows they are. The peace of mind that this decision has brought over he and his mom and dad is inspiring.
