In the past thirty years I have had several watches from nice dress watches, everyday watches to sports watches. Most of the time I wear my watch out, usually in about two years of wear, most watches are not designed  to do outdoor activities. Just not built for that.

Less than 100 years ago, no self-respecting gentleman would have been caught dead wearing a wristwatch. In those days men carried pocket watches. When I was in my teens I carried a pocket watch, I still like using a pocket watch.. Wristlets were watches that were reserved for women and worn on the wrist. It was considered more of a passing fad than a serious timepiece. The Wristlets were held in such disdain that many a gentlemen would rather wear a dress than a wristlets.  Move to nineteenth century war time soldiers tried and found that during wartime situations wearing a wrist watch was less clumsy that a pocket watch and the wrist watch would free up the hands during battle. It is believed that Girard-Perregaux had equipped the German Imperial Naval with similar Wrist Watch pieces as early as the 1880s. The wrist watches were wore on their wrists for synchronizing naval attacks and shooting off artillery. Sound like the soldiers and I have something in common with needing a heavy duty wrist watch.  Maybe one of the TAG heuer models with rubber strap.  The Aquaracer Automatic made by TAG is on of those watches, designed to be a sports watch.
