By Social Catalyst | September 4, 2008

One social media internet tool, before they were considered social community media are Internet forums. Forums are application for holding discussions and posting user-generated content. Be carefull this is another addicted internet function that you can spend a lot of time on.  Internet Forums are commonly referred to as Web forums, Discussion boards, Discussion groups, Message boards, Discussion forums, Bulletin boards, or just simply Forums. The terms “forum” and “board” may refer to the entire community or to a specific sub-forum dealing with a distinct topic from the Master forum.

Social User Forums perform the same function that the dailup bulletin board systems and Usenet news groups did for the internet many years ago.  A virtual community will often develop around these social forums. Most of these social community forums will have a regular group of users. These forums will generate links and traffic back to your websites.
